Healthier citizens, happier trainees

Caroline Söderström

Trainee, Business & IT transformation, Tieto

The Swedish trainee program consists of three rotations, one of which is stationed abroad. My first rotation is within the public sector. It’s an exciting part of Tieto since the projects can have a noticeable, positive impact on the society.

Time is running fast and I’m about to start my tenth week as a trainee at Tieto. These first weeks have been fun and exciting, though hectic and challenging at the same time. I’ve been fortunate to learn a lot. We trainees are currently adjusting to our new routines and life is returning to its normal pace.

I have started as a trainee in the Consulting and System Integration department, one of the service lines at Tieto. For those who are not familiar with the inner workings of Tieto, CSI´s purpose is to provide consultancy and integration services for all of the four industries in which Tieto operates.

The assignment on which I am now working exemplifies how we citizens can benefit from IT. During the coming years Tieto, together with a number of prominent local partners, will digitalize and streamline cancer diagnostics in the Swedish region of Västra Götaland. The goal is to reduce the waiting times of cancer diagnosis as well as to improve diagnostics. The project is now beginning and our work has kicked off with a mapping of the existing operations.  We have also visited the operations and met the pathologists at the hospitals, which has been most interesting.

This project is a good example of how Tieto is digitalizing healthcare and the public sector, thus enabling more efficient services for us all. I’m looking forward to learning more about this area and seeing how we can create a better and healthier future through IT.
