GenT - so much more than a Nordic program
Just like several other writers here, I started my career with Tieto in September 2016. I'm a GenT-trainee at Financial Services in Sweden, with a position in sales.
Lately, I've spent a lot of time with the Fintech Customer Experience unit, a newly founded unit that works with everything related to the end-user experience in digital channels. I think it's an extremely interesting area of digitalization, and I've had the privilege to work with some amazing people in this unit. Being new to this company, it's an honour to be given the opportunity to work with experienced people who wants to share their knowledge and support me in my development at Tieto.
Although I'm based in Stockholm and am taking part in the Nordic trainee program, I definitely believe my year at Tieto is giving me more than just a Nordic experience. Firstly, I get to work with my Tieto colleagues who are located all around the world. Of course, there are pros and cons to this, as with anything. Although it can be challenging to work with colleagues in another time-zone, I think it is fun and refreshing to work with people who are different than I am. I learn and develop by working with people who have a background and culture that is different to mine.
We also get to travel a lot during the program. Since the trainees are located in different places, we get together for four sessions to have group trainings and workshops. The first session took place in Helsinki in combination with us attending the take-off days. The other three sessions are taking place in Stockholm, Ostrava, and Oslo. Is gives us an opportunity to get together as a trainee group, and it is a privilege to see these different units within Tieto after being at the company for a few months. It’s very exciting!
7 weeks in India
In addition to these shorter trips, there is something much larger coming up in a few weeks. I'm going to spend seven weeks at our site in Pune, India. I'll be working with a project for improving the customer experience for banking customers in digital channels. We are always striving to improve customer experience for our end-users, so I couldn't be more excited to be able to contribute to this project.
Apart from planning the actual work in India, you need to apply for a work visa, get all your vaccinations, find a flight, book your accommodation, and connect with your Indian colleagues so as to have a contact person when you arrive. Even though I'm really looking forward to the trip and the opportunity to experience a new country and culture, it feels good to have my trainee colleagues go with me. Working in another country is undoubtedly fun, but it can also throw up some challenges. Having your fellow trainees around you is great - you can share your experiences and support each other in challenging times.
And that's the essence of what the GenT program offers you; the chance to develop your career through new experiences; the chance to contribute to exciting projects; and the chance to share each and every step of your journey with a great bunch of people. My time as a trainee has shown me that Tieto may have its roots in the Nordic countries, but it's a truly global company.
